Zexia "Zeke" Sietman

SCOTT CITY, Mo. – Zexia “Zeke” Sietman, age 87, passed away at her home Monday Feb. 22, 2021. Born March 6, 1933, in Oran to the late Lacey and Idus Ellen Edwards Bernard, Zeke married Clyde (Slats) Bernard Sietman on Oct. 19, 1951, who passed away May 25, 2020. A lifelong resident of Oran, she was an active member of the community, serving on the City Council, Rental Housing Board, and Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church. In 1980, she was honored as Oran Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year.

Zeke’s many interests included a love for weekend fishing trips, feeding and watching birds (keeping a life-list of bird species), sewing, reading detective and spy mystery novels, and vegetable gardening – especially tomatoes. Always generous and thoughtful, Zeke contributed regularly to favorite charities, and her many friends and family enjoyed frequent handwritten letters and cards on countless occasions, holidays, and birthdays without fail.

Zeke is survived by her son, Bernard Sietman of Pepin Wisconsin; two sisters, Etber (Robey) LeGrand and Barbra (Don) Venable, numerous nieces and nephews including Rozz (Jonathan) Ridings, Jo Ellen Hawn, Tina Hennecke, Lacey (Partricia) Bernard, Wendy Bernard Medler (Wes), Audrey Crafton, Rodney (Geralyn) LeGrand, Michael (Sharon) LeGrand, and Darren (Tina) LeGrand, and close extended family, Joe Eaker and Heather Reynolds.

A service for Zeke and Clyde will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield on December 28 at 1:00 pm. Donations in Zeke’s name can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
