Wilson Davis Sikes, 86, of Morley, Missouri, formerly of Paducah, Kentucky, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. He was born August 2, 1932, in Livingston County, Kentucky, to Woodrow Wilson and Ruby Marie Wadley Sikes. He married Coy O. Phillips on November 14, 2004.
The oldest son of six children (four girls and two boys), he was a 1951 graduate of Reidland High School, where he was a star basketball player. Wilson grew up working in his father’s radio and TV repair shop in Paducah, and eventually became a master electrician. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, where he was stationed primarily in the Philippine Islands.
After returning to Paducah, he raised three sons and worked as a union negotiator for General Tire in Mayfield, Kentucky. He was active in the Shrine Club in Paducah, as well as the Local 665 URW Union in Mayfield, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Once retired, he found a new passion in serving the Lord, and spent many hours and miles traveling to churches across the country with his sons and other ministers from his church. In fact, exploring new roads became a favorite pastime, many times with his grandchildren in tow, as he taught them to appreciate history and nature from the back seats of his white minivan.
He served the saints in several churches over the years, from Paducah to Anna-Jonesboro, Illinois, and Cape Girardeau, Missouri. At the end, he was a founding member of The Church at Morley, where he attended faithfully until moving into the nursing home.
He is survived by his wife, Coy, of Morley; three sons, Doug (Kelly) Sikes of Morley, Dave (Paula) Sikes of Paducah, and Duane (Zelma) Sikes of Brussels, Illinois; a sister, Dorothy Turner of Paducah; six grandchildren, Emily (Ryan) Blattel, Elizabeth (Corey) Richter, Wilson “Wil” Sikes, Woodrow “Woody” Sikes, Ellen (Steve) Gipson and Nathan Sikes; and five great grandchildren, Willow Sikes, Barrett Richter, Cash Sikes, Ruth Gipson and Nolan Blattel. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy and three sisters, Nettie, Violet and Sharon.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, November 12, at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, Missouri. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the chapel with Bon Reynolds officiating, assisted by Jeff Gipson. Burial will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, with full military honors.
