Wanda Lou Reed, 86 of Cape Girardeau passed away February 25, 2024 in peace within her and family by her side. "Where a beautiful soul has been, beautiful memories and love will always remain." She was born January 8, 1938 daughter of the late Leo Joseph and Mamie Aline Sander LeDure of Commerce, Missouri. She lived most of her life in Commerce and she was a cook on the towboat “Ginny Stone" retiring after 25 years. Wanda's gumbo and Mississippi mud cake were winners 'with the crew, but with her daughters it was her chicken and dumplings, the chickens even agreed!
She also worked at Southeast Hospital in food service. Wanda was proud of everything she was able to provide for herself and her daughters and most of all she loved what she did. In the good old days she enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, word searches, cooking, and collecting cookbooks. She was a member of the Commerce Better Community Club for several years,
Survivors include four daughters, Deb (Mark) Gayer of Fenton, Missouri,
Brenda (Mark) Hamm of Commerce, Yvonne Reed and Dee (Tim) Fitzgerald of Cape Girardeau; grandson, Matt (Cristin) Gayer of Washington D.C.; brothers Edwin (Lois) LeDure, Roy LeDure; sisters-in-law, Pat and Wilma LeDure all of Commerce; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and more.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Mamie; one sister, June Medlin; brothers, Donnie, Garland, and Bobby LeDure, sister-in-law, Pam LeDure, and brother-in-law, Leeman Medlin.
Graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Oakdale Cemetery in Commerce, Missouri. The family extends sincere gratitude to Southeast Hospice, memorial may be given to Southeast hospice or Charity of Choice.
