Roy E. Gunter 74 years of Benton, Missouri 5/23/48 died 7/27/22
Born to Bill and Mary Gunter of Canalou, Missouri, the fourth of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother Gene, sisters Sharon and Brenda and younger brother Stanley. Roy married Deborah Ann Gibbs of Morley, Missouri in 1968 and is survived by his wife, two sons, Chris and Jeremy, as well as his two younger brothers Daniel of Minnesota and James (Al) of Sikeston. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy was a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood Of Electrical Workers Local 1, St. Louis, Missouri. During the 1980's he served one term as President of the Steel Workers Union 7686 at Noranda in Marston. He joined the Southeast Missouri Central Labor Council in 1979 and was elected President of the Council in 1994, serving for a decade. He was the Democratic Party Delegate from Southeast Missouri during this time and additionally served as Mayor of Benton Missouri for one term,1982-83.
Visitation will be held at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton, Missouri on Friday July 29
th
from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Graveside rites will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 30 at the New Morley Cemetery with Rev. Michael Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Scherer, Adrian Wills, Lee Asher, Doug Nesslein, Chris Gunter and Jeremy Gunter. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Sample, Bill Weber, Dub Stovall, John Graham, Charlie Tharpe, Jerry Oliver, Jim Eftink and Wes Cambell.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the IBEW Relief Fund.
