Robert “BOB” Stokes

Bob Stokes, son of the late Willie Stokes and Eleanor Bingley Stokes was born on November 27, 1944 in Lilbourn, Missouri and departed this life on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 76 years.

Mr. Stokes was a veteran of the United States Navy and a former railroad Maintenance of Way Foreman with Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Bob was affiliated with Perkins Baptist Church and a resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, formally of Oran, Missouri. He was also a volunteer Fireman and first responder in Oran, Missouri.

On February 6, 1965 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Hess in Oran, Missouri. Mrs. Stokes survives of the home in Cape Girardeau.

Besides his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Valerie (Eric) Michelsen of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jo (Butch) Schlitt of Oran, Missouri; one brother, John Wesley Stokes of Sahuarita, Arizona; four grandchildren, Erica (Matthew) Renes, Nathanael (Leah) Michelsen, Alex Schlitt, and Erin (Gavin) Seyer; also by nine great-grandchildren, Jackson Renes, Hudson Renes, Eleanor Renes, Genevieve Renes, Graham Renes, Evelyn Michelsen, Elijah Michelsen, Othniel Michelsen, and Madelyn Michelsen.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elbert Stokes.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. with a Masonic Rite service at 6:30 P.M. at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Perkins First Baptist Church with Eric Michelsen and Nathan Michelsen officiating. Interment will follow in the Williams Cemetery in Perkins, Missouri.
