Maxine Reed

Dorothy “Maxine”  Hinton Reed of Scott City died Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at The Villas of Jackson in Jackson, Missouri at the age of 104.  She was born in Allenville, Missouri on November 9, 1918, daughter of Harry and Carrie Kinder Hinton.  She married R.E. “Gene” Reed on October 31, 1941.  He preceded her in death on December 6, 2003.

She worked at the International Shoe Factory in Cape, retiring in 1943. She also played 2 nd base on the ISCO Softball team in the late 1930’s.  She was a member of the Illmo United Methodist Church, secretary of the United Methodist Women, member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood U.T.U. Railroad.

She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Jean Taylor of Fenton, Missouri, Kay Ellen (Gary) Young of St. Charles, Missouri and Sally Rae (Tim) Porch of Scott City; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a great great grandson.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Jo Reed; a grandson; seven sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 11:00 am on Friday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday at the chapel with Rev. Randy Morse officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
