Marietta Jane Graviett passed away on May 23, 2023 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was born on August 27, 1929, in Oran, Missouri to Paul and Irmina Gosche Pobst. She married Billy Lee Graviett on May 11, 1948 at Guardian Angel Church in Oran. Bill passed away on Oct. 25, 1997. She was also know as "Monie" by many friends and family.
Bill and Marietta had seven children: Linda (Michael) Wheeler and Robert (Carla) Graviett of Oran; Richard (Norma) Graviett of Chaffee; Marilyn (Joe) Gilmore; Mary Lou (Tony) Dell; Paula (Donnie) Bouge of Cape Girardeau; and Alan (Julie) Graviett of Mandeville, Louisiana. She is survived by 22 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 11 Step-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one step-great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews; She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Tenkhoff with whom she had lived for the last four years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister and brother-in-law, Laverne and Eddie Stoll; and her brother-in-law, Jere Tenkhoff. She was also preceded in death by two baby sisters, Doris Lee and Dorothy Marie Pobst.
Marietta lived most of her life in the house where she was born in Caney (a suburb of Oran). She loved farming and was a hard-working farmer’s wife who drove tractors, combines and cotton pickers. Growing up she worked the fields with her dad and milked cows with her mom. She and Bill ran a truck farm growing tomatoes, sweet corn, watermelons, cantaloupes and even okra, which were sold to local grocery stores.
Marietta was a member of Guardian Angel Church in Oran all of her life. She belonged to St. Ann’s Sodality and loved her time in prayer at Mass. She loved her family above all things here on this earth and knew every birthday, anniversary and special occasion in each one’s life. She truly was a prayer warrior and a blessing to all who knew her.
Visitation is on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Guardian Angel School Gym. Parish Rosary will be said at 4:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, at 10:00 am at Guardian Angel Church with Father Joseph Kelly, MSGR. Normand Varone and Rev. Randy Tochtrop as concelabrants.
