Lyman “Jake” Ashcraft, son of the late William Jennings Bryant Ashcraft and Ruby Fern Pritchett was born on October 23, 1936 in Brownwood, Missouri and departed this life on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 86 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Korean conflict. After returning to Stoddard County, he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane Moroni, of Painton, Missouri on August 17, 1963, who survives. They moved to Benton, Missouri, where they raised their five children, eventually retiring from Thomas W. Kelly High School, where he taught science for many years. Dad was well known for his love of chicken and pasta. He was the champion of the one-handed wrench toss, and his patience and understanding were legendary. He also had an answer to every question, even if he had to make it up. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Brent (Diane) Ashcraft of Scott City and Mark (Lisa) Ashcraft of Jefferson City; by three daughters, Laura (Ron) Deason of St. Clair, Missouri, Amy (Eric) Hutson of Scott City, and Kathryn Ashcraft of New Madrid, Missouri; one brother Bill Ashcraft of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Sue Parker of Wood River, Illinois and Peggy Jensen of Wyoming; by twelve grandchildren, Ellen, Karlie, Jacob, Taylor, Allie, Daniel, Tom, Jeff, Samantha, Hayley, McKenzie, and Maddy; also, by seventeen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton. Gravesides service will be conducted on Tuesday, 10:00 A.M. December 20, 2022 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Interment will follow.
