Lorena Clara Heuring Beussink, 85, passed away peacefully, March 12, 2024, in her home at New Hamburg surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 1, 1938, near New Hamburg, daughter of the late Lawrence and Clara Gosche Heuring.
Lorena was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, a member of St. Anne’s Sodality, served as Eucharistic Minister, and past Sunday School teacher. Lorena was a woman of faith who loved church, family, gardening, cleaning, and playing slots at the casino. Sharing vegetables and volunteering at church were her way of giving back. Above all, cooking for family is what filled her heart and made her the happiest. Lorena was well known for the chicken she fried and dumplings she made for parish functions and family gatherings. She worked for SEMO State University in the house keeping department for seventeen years and upon retirement was employed by many to have their home or office cleaned. Over the years she quilted numerous beautiful quilts and embroidered many pairs of pillow cases.
Her most consistent marriage advice was “work together, pray together, and play together.” Lorena was a great example of what it meant to live the Christian life, always praying for God’s guidance and wisdom.
On May 21, 1960, she married Henry John Beussink who survives in the home.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, David (Pam) Beussink of New Hamburg and Steve (Paula) Beussink of Germantown, TN; and four grandchildren, Joe (Jess) Beussink, Nick Beussink, Michael (Courtney) Webb, and Ashley (Nick) Below.
Four brothers preceded her in death; Charles J., Elmer, Joe, and Sylvester (Vess).
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 14th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Father Alois Stevens Hall (Parish Center), St. Lawrence Parish in New Hamburg. A parish Rosary service will be held on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 15th at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Reverend Daniel Belken will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Anne’s Sodality at St. Lawrence, have a Mass said in her name, or send flowers to St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
