Joyce Elaine Backus

Joyce Elaine Backus (Jaco), 68 of Ahoskie, NC passed away on March 17, 2023. Joyce was born February 20th, 1955 in Millersville, MO to Clyde and Iva Jaco. Joyce grew up in Millersville and graduated high school in 1974 from Jackson High School in Jackson, MO. On December 2, 1976 Joyce married Lawrence Schaefer of Scott City, a Navy Veteran in Long Beach, CA and later divorced.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Iva Jaco, her second husband Ricard Backus and her long-time companion Bobby Outlaw Sr.
Joyce is survived by her 2 children Theresa Schaefer of Cahokia, IL and Travis (Tracy) Schaefer of East Bend, NC. Her grandchildren Shayla (Fred) great grandson due July 2023, Kiya, Renee, Lizzy, Mackenzie, Addison, Austin, Devin, Dillan, Savannah, and Alyssa. 4 great grandchildren. Her brothers Leonard (Genny) Jaco of Jefferson City, MO, Lenzel (Debbie) Jaco of Millersville, Mo and her sister Judy (Jimmy) Keller of Delta, MO. As well as her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Joyce has resided in the VA and NC area since 1983. She had an abundance of friends. She attended Mercy Church at 127 NC 42 West, Ahoskie, NC where her memorial service will be held on March 26th 2023 at 3pm.
