Joyce Austin

Joyce Diane Austin, 68 of Benton, Missouri died Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at her home.  She was born December 3, 1952 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Charles William and Delphine Bertha Glastetter Backfisch.  She married James Austin on April 15, 1983 in Benton.

She worked for Florsheim shoe company for 23 years and currently was owner of Austin Apartments.  She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton.

She is survived by her husband, James of Benton; two sons, Roger Austin and Kenny Wayne Austin of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Tammy Renee Nelson of Cape Girardeau and Susan Marie (Bradley) Sutton of Shohamisch, Washington; five brothers, Paul (Nancy) Backfisch of Scott City, Sylvester (Lorene) Backficsh and Vernon
(Linda) Backfisch of Benton, Dennis (Janice) Backfisch of Abiline, Texas and Carl (Becky) Backfisch of Tucson, Arizona; four sisters, Norma Miller of Benton, Mary (Tom) Farris of Thebes, Illinois, Ruth Ann (Jeri) Gowin of Kingsford Heights, Indiana and Carol (Kenny) Lee of Chaffee; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and James.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.  Rosary will be at 7:00 pm

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday at the St. Denis Catholic Church with Rev. Bala Swamy Govindu as celebrant.

Burial will be in Veteran’s Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
