James Danny Smith
James Danny Smith, son of the late James C. Smith and Dora D. (Dixon) Smith was born on April 26, 1949 in Fornfelt, Missouri and departed his life on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at his residence in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 75.
He was a factory worker for much of his life, spending nearly 20 years at Florsheim Shoe Factory as a machine operator. He spent several years working multiple jobs in order to provide for his family. Later in life he worked for Wal-Mart in both Cape Girardeau and Springfield, Missouri.
He spent his life taking care of others. Danny dedicated much of his life to being a role model for many children, whether it was coaching the Kelso Giants Little League team or being a Scout Master to Cub Scout Pack 39 in Kelso and Boy Scout Troop 29 in Scott City for 20 plus years. He helped guide numerous Scouts to earn their Eagle Scout rank.
He was united in marriage to Nadine Steimle on June 20, 1970. Later he remarried Misty Boes on August 26, 2000. “Pa” as he was affectionately known as to his grandchildren, spent his later years residing with Nadine watching baseball (the Cardinals, of course), Andy Griffith and history documentaries
Survivors include one son, William “B.J.” (Heather Phillips) Smith of Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Alexis (Travis) Matheney of East Prairie; five grandchildren, Gavin Smith, Kaden Smith, Elynn Smith, Ayla Smith, and Bobby Joe Matheney; three sisters, Joann Houck and Annie Leonard both of Benton, and Sharon Raines of Scott City; also, by many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James M. Smith; four brothers, Mac Smith, Alfred Smith, Johnny Smith, and David Smith; by three sisters, Audrey Matthews, Imogene Hanger, and Kathleen Woodridge.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM with a Eulogy at 6:00 in the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
