Gladys Smith

Gladys Sue Smith, daughter of the late Leslie and Neta (Peetz) Raines was born August 26, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and departed her life on August 3, 2023 surrounded by family at her home at the age of 80 years.

Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of the Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City where she served as the church secretary for many years and was the unofficial church historian.  She was also a girl scout leader and active in many community groups and clubs.

On April 7th, 1963 she married John Z. Smith. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2011.

She is survived by one son: John (Rhonda) Smith of Scott City, Missouri; two daughters: Leslie (Greg) Kriete of Columbia, Missouri, Anita Smith of Scott City, Missouri; three grandsons: Connor Kriete, Dalton Smith, and Carson Smith; and her furry companion: Zoey.

Apart from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: one sister: Alice Getz; two brothers: Wilford Raines, and Marvin Raines.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 7, 2023 at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at the Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City at 10:00am with Pastor Barry Pfanstiel. Burial will follow in the Eisleben Lutheran Cemetery in Scott City.
