Elaine Schlegel

Elaine Schlegel, daughter of the late William F. and Adella M. Glueck Schmitt was born July 2, 1948 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and departed this life on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020 at her home in Chaffee at the age of 71 years.

Mrs. Schlegel worked for Thorngate Ltd in Cape Girardeau and retired after receiving her 41 years of service award. She was a member of St. Ann Sodality and a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, Missouri.  Elaine graduated from Chaffee Senior High in 1966 and was an avid animal lover especially “Miss Sarge”, was a member of the ASPCA, Farm Sanctuary and the Human Society. She was a coach for the mini blues Softball League in New Hamburg. She loved to donate to the Shriners and the Ronald McDonald House charities.

On December 3, 1987 she was united in marriage to Larry “SARGE” Schlegel in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  Mr. Schlegel preceded her in death on November 4, 2012.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Daniel of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Rachael Daniel (Chris Bittle) of Merriam, Kansas; one step-son, Jon Jeffry Schlegel; one sister, Paula Worley of Millersville, Missouri; also, by 6 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee with Prayer service being conducted at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel.  Funeral mass will be conducted on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg with Father Normand Varone celebrant.  Interment will follow at the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Larry “Hammer” Glueck, G.P. Glueck, Bernard Kern, Gary Kluesner, Grant Jaynes and Ray Spies.
