Edward Leroy York (91) of Benton, Missouri, passed away on March 3, 2022. Ed was born on April 21, 1930, to Joseph and Lucille Lovell York in Overland, Missouri. He was the eldest of six children: Allen Keith, John William, Norman Eugene, Myrna Faye, and Robert Lewis. He majored in Latin American Studies and business at Mizzou in Columbia and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. In 1952, Ed met and married Bonnie McCory. They had five children: Rose Stephens, Deborah Sanchez, Nancy Vialpando (Marvin) of Colorado, Linda Seielstad (Chuck) of California, and Keith York of Colorado. After graduating from college and serving his country in Korea, he worked for Montgomery Ward Company at locations across the United States. He later owned a Western Auto Store in Alamosa, Colorado, where he was a well-known and respected member of the community. Ed retired to care for Bonnie until her death from cancer in 1996. Ed was an avid cruise-goer and enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. He loved being outdoors and was fond of fishing, walking, gardening and dancing. He was a passionate recycler and enjoyed iced coffee long before you could find it in a coffee shop. Ed met Angelina Salter, a nurse, on a cruise ship in 1999. They were married on Valentine’s Day 2007. Ed and Angie (also widowed) felt blessed to have found such great love later in life. Visiting Metropolis, Cape Girardeau, and Tunica became some of their favorite pastimes. Even in his last days, Ed savored his home-grown tomatoes. He and Angie attended Miner Baptist Church in Sikeston. Ed was predeceased by his parents, three younger brothers, wife Bonnie, daughters Rose and Nancy, granddaughter Kimberly, and grandson Joshua. He is survived by his wife and soul mate Angie, his younger siblings Bob York (Mary) of Glen Allen and Myrna Cheek (Earl) of Morley, daughters Debbie and Linda, son Keith, two nieces, seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, a stepson Robert, a stepdaughter Georgina, 10 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great grandchildren. He loved them all. He is loved and will be missed. As Ed often said, “It's a beautiful day in the valley.” May we all be as blessed as he to enjoy life to the fullest! Services will be held on Friday, April 22 at 12 noon at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
