Delores Mantos

Delores Mantos, daughter of the late John Schmitt and Pauline Catherine (Leissing) Schmitt was born on September 7, 1939 in Illmo, Missouri and departed her life on Thursday morning December 28, 2023 at her residence in Scott City at the age of 84 years.

She was a member of the Saint Joseph Parish in Scott City and Ladies Veteran of Foreign War Auxiliary in Scott City.  Delores was a graduate of Illmo-Fornfelt high school and former 28-year employee of Daimler-Chrysler Corporation. She was also a member of the local #1413 United Auto Worker Association and volunteer at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

On October 5, 1968 she was united in marriage to Angelo Mantos in Schaumburg, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on December 21, 2009.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Sandra Markovitch of Monaca, Pennsylvania; one brother, Don Peter (Wilma) Schmitt of Melbourne Beach, Florida; one sister, Alis Ann Schmitt of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna, and Montana; eight great-grandchildren, Donovan, Zoey, Grayson, Mia, Lillia, Mayvis, Ella, and Amelia; by nieces and nephews and two very special neighbors and friends, Laura Poole and Laurie Powers.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Drew and Mary Marshall.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 8:30 am – 9:30 am at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.  Funeral mass will then be conducted on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City with Father Tom Wilk officiating.  Interment will take place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to two causes dear to Delores, Alzheimer’s Association and St. Jude’s Hospital.
