Danny Ray Cope
Daniel “Danny” Ray Cope, 64, passed away on December 10th, 2022 from a short but hard-fought battle with cancer, surrounded by family at his home in Kelso, MO. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of his friends and family who loved him dearly.
Danny was born on June 11th, 1958 to Daniel and Margaret Cope in St. Louis, MO. Danny graduated from Illmo Scott City High School in 1976 where he met the love of his life Patty Essner. They married on July 16th, 1977 in Kelso, MO and enjoyed 45 wonderful years of marriage together.
Danny was born with gasoline in his veins and an independence that led to his desire to be his own boss. He ran his business, DC’s Custom Body and Paint, for more than 30 successful years. There was never a project too big or complicated for Danny, because creating a one-of-a-kind work and being covered in bondo dust and grease up to his elbows was his version of paradise. Danny knew that his customers trusted him, and that was not something he took for granted. Cars were not just Danny’s business, they were also his hobby and include both a 1955 Chevy drag car, and his most prized work; getting his 1970 Mach 1 Mustang back on the road. These projects took a great deal of time, but Danny always took time to help others, even if he called you a few choice words when he showed up. While Danny may have had a passion for cars, it was always second to his first passion which was his family. He was especially proud to become a grandpa this year.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Cope.
He is survived by his loving wife Patty, a daughter; his pride and joy Danielle and son in law Devin Tucker, who meant the world to him, and his precious granddaughter Hayden, all of Kelso. His father, Dan Cope, from Scott City. A shop cat, Casper and numerous extended family and friends including nieces and nephews that he loved to pick on any chance he had.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, Missouri. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 9:00 A.M. in the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City with Rev. Tommy Miller officiating.
Burial will be in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Kelso.
The family would like to thank family and friends during this difficult time.
