Charlotte Kathryn Hooper

Charlotte Kathryn Schlosser Hooper was called to her eternal Heavenly home on June 10, 2024, where she was welcomed by her grandson, Dominic Michael Hooper, and her Dad and Mom, Theon John and Ella Irene LeDure Schlosser. Charlotte was surrounded by those whom she held the dearest in her heart, as she peacefully slept and took her last earthly breath.

Charlotte was born on July 1, 1951 to Theon J. and Ella I., ninth of 14 children, all raised on the family farm in Illmo, MO. Charlotte will always be remembered for loving children and a generous heart, especially during her many years as the school secretary for St. Joseph Catholic School, then later, St. Augustine Catholic School/Parish, until her retirement. There, Charlotte wiped many tears, extended the most comforting hugs, celebrated their accomplishments, and most importantly led them to God and reminded them that God never leaves their side. The children always received a very healing “peppermint” for all their many ails. Charlotte extended her caring ways to all she came in contact with, demonstrating her empathy and helping in every way she could. Her faithfulness in her Lord and Savior was undeniable, always putting others before herself, and offering her authentic unconditional love. Charlotte was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Ladies Sodality. Charlotte started the Beginning Experience, the first non-denomination support group for the divorced or widowed of the area. She also helped with the first St. Augustine School dinner auction, 31 years ago. She established the first St. Augustine School Chicken N’ Dumplin Carry-out Lunch fundraiser. Charlotte was instrumental in many other fundraisers and supporting the youth by leading youth groups, coaching softball, and soccer. As a single Mother, Charlotte made certain her daughters participated in every activity they desired, often time leading those activities, everything was a family affair.

Charlotte was blessed with the love and dedication of her dear best friend, Joan Drury, who took great care of Charlotte in her years of health trials. Charlotte and Joan shared 45 years of many wonderful adventures with a deep friendship to include both good and bad times. They never left one each other’s sides. Charlotte and Joan took the Cookies and Cream, in West Park Mall in the early 1980’s, from processed cookies to homemade cookies, inspired by their mother’s recipes. Their love for baking and cooking resulted in preparing many meals for family and friends, as well as those who suffered a loss in their families. Charlotte carried on her Mother’s tradition of having her family over every Sunday for a large homecooked dinner, making sure no one left hungry. She was at her happiest when her girls and their families were all under her roof. She thoroughly enjoyed the many family vacations, sitting around her dining room table playing cards, crafting, or when one of her grandkids stopped by just to visit with her. Charlotte and Joan opened their home for her children’s graduation and birthday parties, and always included her sons-in-law’s families.

Charlotte was also blessed with four beautiful daughters, who brought more love and happiness with the addition of her precious 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her oldest daughter, Christine (Clint) Estes and children, Caleb (Sarah) and children, Ella and Emery, Zachary, Abagail (Ty Householder), and Sam; Cheryl Tucker and children, Catrina Stone and children, Alyssa, Anna, Amelia, and Ryan Brock (Addie Evans), Rebecca (Allen Collier) and children Alivia, Ty (Delaney Dohogne), Bennett, and Charlotte, and her youngest daughter, Sara (Chris Snider) and children, Our Angel Dominic Hooper, Amanda (Trey) Snider, and Drake (Julia) Snider.

Survivors include her siblings, sisters-in-law, Pat Schlosser, Margie Schlosser; sisters Helen Kluesner, Doris (Danny) Moore, Diana (Ira) Judd, Mary Schlosser, Juanita (Jack) Dannenmueller, Dale (Gale LeDure) Schlosser, and Rick (Karen) Schlosser; her Godchildren DeWayne Kluesner, Dawn Moore, Pamela Judd, and Debra Halter; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Dominic, her brother and sister-in-law, Theon Jr (Pat), their infant twins John and Elizabeth, brothers, Bill, Maurice, Frank, and infant Joseph, and her sister Ella, her brother-in-law, Buster Kluesner, a niece, Danette Ketcher, and nephew, Danny Moore, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, it is Charlotte’s wish that donations be made to the Dominic Hooper Scholarship Fund, or the Samuel C. Estes Special Needs Trust via The Bank of Missouri 315 Crites Avenue Scott City, MO 63780, or St. Augustine Catholic School via St. Augustine School P.O. Box 97 Kelso, MO 63758.
