Charley "Don" Michelsen

Don Michelsen, son of the late Charley E. and Faye (Bacchus) Michelsen was born on July 9, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri and departed his life on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 75 years.

Don was a member of Laborers Local 282 in Cape Girardeau. He then worked as a car salesman in the Cape Girardeau and Sikeston areas before opening Michelsen Motors in Cape Girardeau in 1997. He retired in 2009. Don enjoyed spending time with his family and was a resident of Oran, Missouri.

On October, 21, 1967 he was united in marriage to Shirlee Ann Menz in Oran, Missouri.  She survives of the home in Oran.

Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Sherri (Chris) Grojean of New Hamburg, Missouri; two grandchildren, Tara (Justin) Modglin of Scott City and Lindsey (Landon) Grojean of St. Louis, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Maggie Modglin of Scott City; two sisters, Bonnie Dover of Cape Girardeau and Sharon (Mike) London of Baldwin, Illinois; also, by other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Michelsen; by three sisters, Velma Thompson, Mari Matthews, and Betty Thele.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 10:00 until 12:00 at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.  Celebration of life service will then be conducted at 12:00 noon in the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations may be made to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
