Charles “Shorty” Westrich

Charles “Shorty” Westrich, son of the late William “Bill” Westrich and Blandine Clara Blattel was born on March 29, 1929 in New Hamburg, Missouri and departed this life on Monday, February 15, 2021 at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 91 years.

Shorty was a former employee of Thorngate Manufacturing and owner of Shorty’s Tavern. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a resident in Chaffee, Missouri.

On April 12, 1950 he was united in marriage to Marcella Joyce Moore. Mrs. Westrich survives of the home in Chaffee.

Besides his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Smith of Chaffee and Janet (Elmer) Schaefer of Oran; by two brothers, James Westrich of Kelso, Missouri and C.T. Westrich of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by one sister, Viola Diebold of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; four grandchildren, Melissa Graviett, Tammy Glueck, Jeff Schaefer, and Kim Pennington; eight, great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jimmy Smith; one grandson, Greg Schaefer; and by one brother, Joe Westrich.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 11:00 until 2:00 at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee and Knights of Columbus rites will be held at 1:00P.M.  Funeral service will then be conducted at 2:00P.M.in the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel with Father Joseph Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Ambrose Cemetery.
