Charles Lee Scherer

Charles Lee Scherer, 87 of Benton, died June 23, 2020. He was born March 14, 1933 in Benton, Mo., the son of the late Cletus and Celesta Enderle Scherer.
Mr. Scherer “Ace” was employed by Kelly High School as the Gas Engines teacher, bus driver and bus mechanic for many years in the 1970's. He also was the owner of Scherer Auto Service until his retirement. Charlie was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church his entire life. Charlie was a veteran of the US Army. He loved the outdoors and all his grandchildren were his pride and joy!
On June 8, 1958 at Guardian Angel Church in Oran, Mo. He married Rose Ann Ressel who survives of the home.
He is also survived by his 11 children; Mike (Karen) Scherer, Gary (Judy) Scherer, Charla (Paul) Glueck, Don (Sandy McArthur) Scherer, Richard (Lisa) Scherer, Lisa (Doug Gosche) Scherer, Linda (Kevin) Kieffer, Kenny (Meredith) Scherer, Teresa
(Shane ) Ray, Barbra (Lynn) Below and Jason (Paula Menees) Scherer.
Grandpa Scherer was loved by 27 grandchildren: Harley Scherer; Andrew, Ethan and Elliot Glueck; Dylan, Gage, Reece and Jude Scherer; Hunter, Kelsi, Haley and Kaylen Glastetter; Klayton, Heather and Kaleb Gosche; Nathan, Lindsey and Lucia Kieffer; Carter, Jolie, Tanner and Chloe Scherer; Gaven and Carlee Ray; Nick, Jake and Savannah Below.
He was also loved by 7 great-grandchildren; Alaina Trankler; Carson Glueck; Charlie and Leo Glastetter; Kaisley and Bridge Moit; Emerson Scherer.
Charlie is also suvived by 8 siblings; Jim Scherer, Ruth Anne Cashion, Clara Grider, Celeste Nenninger, Clete Scherer, Harold Scherer, Ann Stuckey and Danny Scherer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom Scherer and a sister, Mary Louise Scherer.

A private family visitation and service will be held on Friday. A public burial will follow at 12 pm at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery in Benton with Rev. Bala Swamy Govindu officiating. Burial will be with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorials may  be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
