Carl Edward Mason, of Oran, 92, was born November 5, 1929 in Dover, Arkansas to the late Mart and Hattie (Anderson) Mason and passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri surrounded by family.
He was a lifelong farmer, an avid turkey hunter and camp cook, professional card shark, “professional auctioneer”, fan and critic of the St. Louis Cardinals and Oran High School athletics, and driving the bus for Oran School District. His hobbies included traveling, singing karaoke, listening to country music, being a horse enthusiast, and watching country westerns. After retiring from farming in 1995, he took up many hobbies, but his favorite was opening the Palace Winery where he made his blue-ribbon, award-winning wine.
On October 25, 1952, he married Clessie Lance in Sikeston, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1994. Then on April 7, 1995 he married Claude Anne Phillips in Advance, Missouri. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2018.
He is survived by two daughters: Sharon (Randy) Hawkins of Chesterfield, Missouri, Lisa (Jay) May of Morley, Missouri; one son Mark (Tina) Mason of Oran, Missouri; two step daughters: Janet Warren, of Scott City, Missouri, Crystal (Brian) Todt of Oran, Missouri; one step-son: Charlie (Darla) Sallee of Oran, Missouri; two sisters: Mildred (Bob) Mason, Carol Mason both of LeGrand, Iowa; one brother: Gary Mason, two granddaughters: Ashton (Corey) Duncan, Tatum May both of Springfield, Missouri; seven step-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.
Apart from his parents and his two wives, Mr. Mason was also preceded in death by two sisters: Myrtle Pellham, Pauline Mason; two brothers: General Mason, Harold Mason; and two step grandsons: Austin Todt, and Dylan Pobst.
On June 10, 2022 the memorial visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Oran. Memorial Service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Donnie Ford officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Memorial Garden Cemetery in Morley, Missouri.
