Alfred Lee Kurtz, 72 of Scott City, Missouri died Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at his home. He was born October 11, 1946 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Richard Alfred and Mary Ellen Hoover Kurtz. He married Judy Oralene Noon on September 3, 1966 in Cape Girardeau.
He was Chief Engineer for Archer Daniel Midland Barge Line, the fourth generation to work on the river and he had previously worked at Modern Roofing. He served in the U.S. Airforce during Vietnam. He enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, playing cards, working in the yard, and gardening. He also enjoyed traveling to Tunica to meet up with friends from the service to go gambling. He loved his Boars Nest buddies. Alfred loved his family more than anything and his favorite saying “That’s what Daddy’s do!”
He is survived by his wife, Judy; his mother, Mary Simms of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Randy (Amy) Kurtz of Jackson and Jeff (Michelle) Kurtz Imperial, Missouri; three daughters, Lorie (Wayne) Umfleet of Burfordville, Missouri, Debbie (Brian) Hendrix of Zalma, Missouri and Karie (Jordon) Comer Scott City; three sisters, Helen Wills of Shreveport, Louisiana, Linda Guthrie of Sikeston, Missouri and Pam Howell of Cape Girardeau; fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, two grandchildren and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Saturday at the Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday at the chapel with Mark Fisher officiating.
Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City with full military honors.
