Jackson, MO> Dora Esther Mantel, 90, of Jackson, MO, passed away at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO on Monday July 2, 2012. She was born in Morley, MO on April 16, 1922, to the late Ray and Cora Watson Shores. She married C.E. Mantel on August 22, 1945 and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1991. Dora was a florist at Gilmers Flower Shop in Chaffee and also worked at Sports Specialty Shoe Factory as a machine operator. Dora and C.E. then started Mantel Antiques in Chaffee after he retired from the railroad. Dora was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Chaffee where she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of Ladies Society of Brotherhood Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, Ladies V.F.W. Aux Post #10495 of Jackson, volunteered at the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau and the American Red Cross. Survivors include one son, Charlie (Pat) Mantel of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Connie Smith of Jackson, MO and Carla (Gary) Wilke of Midlothian, TX; nine grandsons and twelve great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and a special friend and companion, Vincent Schwartz. There will be a Graveside Service at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau today at 2:30p.m. with Rev. Jack Bishop officiating assisted by Rev. Charles Lance. In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church in Chaffee.
