Rufus Roy "Sonny" Sanford

Rufus Roy "Sonny" Sanford Jr., 77 of Benton, MO passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born January 15, 1935 in Ancell, MO son of Rufus Roy and Ethel Angelyn Stone Sanford Sr. He married Shirley Elaine Fry on March 26, 1953 in Ancell, MO. Rufus worked as a self-employed carpenter for the past 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the outdoors and enjoyed working on anything. He is survived by his wife of Benton; six sons, Adam (Debbie) Sanford and Jerry Sanford of Cape Girardeau, Roger (Mona) Sanford, David (Crystal) Sanford of Jackson, Ronald (Krista) Sanford of St. Louis, Danny (Missy) Sanford of Benton; six daughters, Anita (Lynn) Sides, Margaret (Rodney) Seabaugh of Jackson, Carol (Rick) Coomer of Shawneetown, Mary (Ronnie) Mansker and Lisa Cox of Cape Girardeau and Theresa Sanford of Benton; a brother, Paul Sanford of Golconda, IL; 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Penny Klingel, two sons, James "Jim" Sanford and Rufus Sanford III; two brothers, Roger Sanford and William Sanford; three sisters, Dortha Sanford, Joyce Shumpert and Verna Mae Kelly;and a grandchild. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00, Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City. Funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the chapel with Rev. Jack Owens officiating. Burial will be at Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to American Lung Association.
