Larry "Sarge" Dean Schlegel, 75, of Chaffee passed away November 4, 2012 at the family home in Chaffee, MO. He was born June 1, 1937, to the late Edwin P. and Vesta R. Slinkard Schlegel in Cape Girardeau, MO. Larry married Alice Crafton mother of Jon Jeffry in 1960, Bonnie Musgrave Neal on Nov. 5, 1966 and she preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 1978. He then married Elaine Schmitt Daniel on December 3, 1987 and she survives. He was a machine gunner as well as a M.P. in the United States Marines for 4 years. Larry retired as a lineman in 1988, from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Advance, MO where he worked for 39 years. He was a former councilman for City of Advance, member of Lifetime Telephone Pioneers Communication, Workers of America, Chaffee Elks Lodge #1810. Larry refereed MSHAA boys and girls basketball games for many years and also worked with the Advance Little League baseball. Survivors include his wife Elaine of the home; one son, Jon Jeffry (Sally) Schlegel of Atlanta, GA; two step daughters, Michelle Daniel of Cape Girardeau, MO, Rachael Daniel of Merriam, KS; one brother, Charles Schlegel of Cape Girardeau, MO; two sisters, Helen Maintz and Rebecca Illers both of Cape Girardeau, MO; four grandchildren, Ashley (Don) Petolick of Omaha, NE, Tamra Schlegel of Valencia, CA, Jon Schlegel Jr. of Isla Vista, CA, James Schlegel student in Argentina; one great grandchild, Donald Jon Petolick of Omaha, NE. Friends may call Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4PM Wednesday November 7, 2012. There will be an Elks Service at 6:30PM. The funeral service will be held at 10AM, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, MO with Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Missouri Honor Guard.
