Marilyn Marcella Sparkman, age 80, of Topeka, KS formerly of Chaffee, MO passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Topeka. She was born in Chaffee, MO on March 12, 1932 to the late Earl and Mary Ann Malone Alvey. Marilyn married John L. Sparkman on March 6, 1948 he preceded her in death on September 7, 2009. Marilyn's first job was as a waitress at her uncle Fred's Dinner Bell Café in Chaffee. She retired after 33 years of employment at Southwestern Bell Telephone in St. Louis, MO working as a telephone operator. She was a member of Chaffee General Baptist Church and Lifetime Pioneer Organization with Bell Telephone. She enjoyed fishing, working cross word puzzles, bingo, Camel cigarettes, drinking Pepsi Cola and listening to Elvis Presley. Survivors include one son, J.D. (Gale) Sparkman of Tecumseh, KS; one daughter, Judy (Don) Sherman of Collinsville, IL; one brother, Elton (Lee-Ann) Alvey of O'Fallon, IL; one sister, Jeanie (John) Stroup Smith of Chaffee, MO; one granddaughter, Michelle (David) Dixon and two great granddaughters, Daytona and Tate Dixon. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie. Friends may call after 4pm, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Funeral service will be held at 10am, Friday, March 8, 2013 at the chapel with Rev. Bob Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Union Park cemetery in Chaffee. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the General Baptist Church in Chaffee, MO. Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee is in charge of arrangements.
