Shirley Ann Givens

Shirley A. Givens, age 67, of Delta, MO passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the family farm in Delta, MO. She was born on August 3, 1945 in Cape Girardeau, MO to William and Margaret Matilda Kinder Birkman Jr. She married Terry Givens on July 31, 1970 and he survives. Shirley was an elementary teacher at Delta R-5 Public School teaching various classes. She later received her masters degree specializing in remedial reading. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Delta, MO and MSTA. She and her husband, Terry, farmed as a team for over 43years. They traveled to county and local fairs, as well as three different state fairs to show draft horses and draft mules. The Givens' sell over 90% of their draft mules to the Amish in PA. Survivors include her father William Birkman Jr. of Delta, MO; her husband, Terry of the home; two brothers, Kenneth Birkman of Advance, Mo, Timothy (Jamie) Birkman of Delta, MO. She was preceded in death by her mother. Friends may call after 4PM Tuesday April 16, 2013 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, MO. The funeral service will be held at 10AM Wednesday April 17, 2013 at the chapel with Rev.Dan Baggett officiating assisted by Rev. Bertha Boyd. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Delta R-5 Foundation Fund. Burial will follow at Barks Chapel Cemetery near Crump, MO.
