William W. "Bill" Rhodes, age 82, of Chaffee, MO passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born on August 13, 1930 in Puxico, MO to the late John C. and Margaret Hope Hickman Rhodes. He married Alice Ann Mosley on January 30, 1953 and she preceded him in death on February 22, 1993. He married Shirley Jones Gardiner on August 20, 1994 and she survives. Bill was a sergeant in the United States Marines having served in the Korean Conflict. He worked as an engineer for the Frisco Railroad and The Burlington Northern Railroad in Chaffee for 40 years before retiring in 1992. Bill was of the Methodist faith. He was a lifetime member of the Chaffee V.F.W #3127 and Chaffee Elks Lodge #1810. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; three sons, Mark Rhodes of Chaffee, Jon (Carol) Rhodes of Columbia, MO, Bill Rhodes of Chaffee, MO; one daughter, Laura (Carl) Nurnberg of Wildwood, MO; one step son, Scott (Margie) Gardiner of Hernando, MS; six grandchildren, Mike (Kim) Rhodes, Andrew Rhodes, Tyler (Amanda) Baert, Amanda Rhodes, Stephanie Rhodes, Rocky (Annette) Portel; six step-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Paul, Mitch and Sam Gardiner, Len and Lane Fagan; four great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one son, Ralph Rhodes; one step daughter, Laurie Gardiner Fagan and one sister, Phyllis Wilkinson. Friends may call after 4p.m.,Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, MO. A V.F.W. service will be held at the chapel at 7p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the chapel on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 10a.m. with Rev. officiating. Burial will follow at Puxico City Cemetery in Puxico, MO with full military honors presented by the Missouri Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.
