William J. Myers, age 87, of Chaffee, MO, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at home with his family. He was born on October 8, 1926 in Hartzell, MO son of Daniel and Altha L. McClain Myers. He and Joetta Mae Proctor were married March 13, 1943 and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2004. William served in the United States Army during WWII, worked 20years at Sports Specialty Shoe Co. in Chaffee before moving to California in 1962.While in California he managed a chicken ranch, worked at the Motion Picture Hospital as a supervisor of the laundry and housekeeping, and owned his own maintenance business for over 20years. He retired and moved back to Missouri in 1985 and owned and operated three movie rental stores for nine years and then worked at the Lutheran Home for over four years. During all these jobs he enjoyed collecting many things; Avon to antiques, clocks and old cars. Survivors include a daughter, Georgia (John) Wessel of Gordonville; a son, Billy Joe (Diana) Myers of Chaffee; two grandsons, Bill Ray and Will Roy Myers of the home; three step grandchildren, Wendy Seabaugh, Josh (Michelle) Wessel of Gordonville, Matthew Wessel of St. Louis; three step great grandchildren; three brothers, Lester, Lawson and Billy Heuring all of Sikeston; six sisters, Linda (Billy) Richardson, Lucy (Cletus) Jones of Bridgeton, IL, Willis Smith, Alvene Johnson, Jerry Ruff all of Sikeston and Barbara (Calvin) Brown of Morley. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Mary Slayton. Friends may call after 4pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, MO. Funeral Service will be held at 10am, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the chapel with Rev. Gene Hooker and Rev. Calvin Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley with full military honors presented by the Missouri Honor Guard.
