John G. Frye, Jr.

John G. Frye Jr., 86, of Scott City died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, to John Grant and Emma Elizabeth Brucher Frye. He married Irma Mae Brunke Jan. 9, 1954. John was a conductor 30 years with Southern Pacific Railroad. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard 38 years and served during World War II. John was a baptized member of Eisleben Lutheran Church of Scott City, a member of H.O. Grauel Masonic Lodge 672, Wilson Chapter 75 of York Rite, Cape Council 20 York Rite, Cape Girardeau Commandery 55 of York Rite, Scottish Rite Valley of St. Louis, Capaha Scottish Rite of Cape Girardeau, American Legion Post 63 in Cape Girardeau, Shriners of St. Louis, and SEMO Radio Club. He is survived by his wife, Irma; a son, Mike Frye of Scott City; three daughters, Patty (Tom) Schiwitz of Chaffee, Donna (Mike) Essner of Scott City, Debbie (Carl) Kolkmeier of St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Donna Frye of Gordonville; three brothers, Dan Frye of Ft. Myers, Fla., George Frye of Savoy, Ill., Ralph Frye of Lafayette, La.; a sister, Helen Craig of Eagle Lake, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John G. Frye, III; a brother, Bill Frye and a sister, Betty Bradberry. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Eisleben Church. A Scottish Rite service will be held at 7 tonight. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Marty Hasz officiating. Burial will be in Eisleben Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be sent to Eisleben Lutheran Church or Southeast Hospice.
