Alice Marie Kiefer

April 7, 1931 — March 3, 2014

Alice Marie Kiefer

An angel, Alice Marie Horman Kiefer of Chaffee, was called home to be with her heavenly father on March 3, 2014 where she was finally reunited in the arms of her loving husband, Paul. She was 82. When God made Alice, he broke the mold. She truly was one of a kind; all you had to do was ask her. She was full of love for her family and friends, quick witted and full of life. You could always find her running the ship at Kiefer's Service Station or at one of her grandkids' ball games. She was seldom seen without at least one of her grandchildren. She loved to laugh and could dish it as well as she could take it. She was loved by so many and affectionately known as "Gert", "Big Al", "Sis", "Aunt Sis", "Shramaw" and "Granny Ali." Alice was born April 7, 1931 in Chaffee, Mo to Fred and Mayme Griffin Horman. She married Paul Edward Kiefer on May 1, 1954 in Chaffee, MO. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1986. She worked at Floresheim Shoe Factory, Henschel Manufacturing, National Transformers and Havco. Before she officially retired, she held many hats at Kiefer's Service Station, including receptionist, cashier, entertainment provider, and self-appointed boss of anyone employed including the owner, her beloved son, Donnie. She was a member of the Daughter's of St. Ambrose, VFW Ladies Auxillary #3127 and American Legion Auxillary #389. When Alice wasn't at work she spent many hours in her own kitchen where she loved to cook. Her family and friends would frequently request her chicken and dumplings, kettle beef, slaw, pies and her made from scratch lasagna, that her grandkids attest can never be duplicated. Loving survivors include her children who were her pride and joy; two sons, Donnie (MaryAnn) Kiefer, Ronnie (Peggy Steimle) Kiefer; two daughters Paula (Larry) Glueck and Brenda (Kevin) Miller all of Chaffee, MO. She was Grandma Alice (Shramaw) to nine grandkids that she thought the world of, and who thought she hung the moon; Angie Glueck (Jeremy) Ruiz, Kelly Glueck (Jason) Ressel, GP (Jennifer) Glueck, Morgan Kiefer(Blaine) Swinford, Mallory Kiefer (Jeremey) Dohogne, Madelyn Kiefer, Gabe and Brennan Miller, Josh (Ashley Ritter) Job. Alice had 11 great-grandchildren who she absolutely adored and who brought so much joy in to her life; Seger Ruiz, Lexi Burnett, Halle and Connor Ressel, Harley and Keira Glueck, Adam Swinford, Liza Dohogne, Matthew, Rylee and Colton Job. She loved and was loved by her honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Karen (Brian) Kilburn; Kailey, Brooke and Brian "Bubby" Kilburn. She was known as "Sis" to her siblings and is survived by three brothers; Alfred "Butch" Horman of St. Louis, MO; Robert Horman of Chaffee, MO; James "Jim" Horman of Jonesboro, AR; and two sisters; Aline Fielner of St. Louis, MO and Ina Eftink of Glennon, MO. Many nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her "Aunt Sis", also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Ben and Larry Horman; and two sisters, Mary Jane and Dorothy Horman. Friends may call after 4PM, Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, MO. Parish Prayers will be held at 6PM at the chapel. The funeral mass will be held at 10AM, Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery. Those who get the honor of being their grandmother's pallbearers are: GP Glueck, Gabe Miller, Brennan Miller, Josh Job, Jeremy Ruiz, Jason Ressel, Blaine Swinford and Jeremey Dohogne. Honorary pallbearers are Alice's little sweethearts; Seger Ruiz, Lexi Burnett, Halle Ressel, Connor Ressel, Harley Glueck, Keira Glueck, Adam Swinford, Liza Dohogne, Matthew Job, Rylee Job and Colton Job. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or Chaffee High School Athletics. All other cash contributions will be donated to "The Dutchman's Dash", a performance event set up in honor of Alice Kiefer, with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer's Association. To show support in the fight against Alzheimer's and to honor their matriarch's favorite color, the family will be wearing purple to the funeral, and they invite everyone else to do the same.
