Iona Welter

Iona C. Welter, 94 of Benton, MO died April 21, 2014 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born August 30, 1919 in Benton, MO to Albert V. and Ella Devine Bollinger. She married Paul Andrew Welter on September 13, 1942 in San Diego, CA. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1964. Iona was worked for the Southeast Missourian for 25 years and also worked at Selective Service and Missouri State Department of Social Services. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality of the Church. She is survived by a son, Mike (Mary Lou) Welter of Sikeston; a daughter, Patricia (Joe) Ray of Enid, OK; a sister, Jo Ann Knight of Port Charlotte, FL; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee Sutherland; a sister, Marie Gauthier and three brothers, Lyman, Albert and Sylvester Bollinger. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Benton, MO. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, MO.
