Gilbert Woodrow Mabrey, age 92, of Chaffee, formerly of Allenville, MO passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born on June 17, 1921 in Cape Girardeau, MO to the late George and Hazel Snider Mabrey. He married Ruby A. Eakins on January 8, 1940 and she preceded him in death on March 20, 2006. Gilbert served in the United States Army during WWII. He served in six major campaigns in the South Pacific and was highly decorated in those campaigns. He was a member of the Whitewater Masonic Lodge, Chaffee V.F.W. Post 3127 and the Allenville Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Mabrey Barber Shop in Advance, MO. He is survived by a son, William E. (Betty) Mabrey of Scott City, MO; one daughter, Donna F. (Ray) Fisher of Chaffee, MO; one sister, Marjorie Brown of Crump, MO; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jane Buchheit-Watson and one brother, Gene Short. Friends may call from 9:30a.m. until time of service on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Funeral service will be held at 11a.m. at the chapel with Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee, MO with full military honors presented by the Missouri Honor Guard.
