Jeryl Wilson Slinkard, age 71, of Oran, MO passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at the family home in Oran after fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on July 15, 1942 in Randles, MO to the late Hubert Wilson and Eva Evelyn Mobley Slinkard. He graduated from Delta High School in the Class of 1959. He then married Beverly Dawn Roberts of Oran, MO on August 4, 1961 and she survives. Jeryl was a member of Cape County Cowboy Church in Oak Ridge, MO. He worked as a cutter at Florsheim Shoe in Cape Girardeau; he also worked for General Motors Car Plant in Kansas City, KS from 1962-1973; in 1979 he worked as a Union representative for United Shoe Workers; in 2000 he retired from U.N.I.T.E after serving as Manager of Cape Girardeau District. He also was a manager for Southwest Region in St. Louis, MO, which included Southern IL, KS and KY. After retiring he worked several part time jobs just to entertain others and himself. He enjoyed traveling having been to 46 states, Canada and Mexico. He also liked studying genealogy and American history. Most importantly he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Dawn, of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Slinkard (Dennis Summers) Yorba Linda, CA, Kandy (Rob) Schlitt of Jackson, MO; three grandsons, Ryan Ross, Quentin Valencia and Connor Schlitt; one brother, Paul David (Cindy) Slinkard of Jackson, MO; two nephews, Ben and Luke Slinkard; one brother-in-law, Paul Douglas Roberts of Oran, MO and one sister-in-law, Alma (Wayne) Hopper of Redondo Beach, CA. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Kenneth and Gerry Slinkard. Friends may call after 4pm on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Funeral service will be on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10a.m. at the chapel with Rev. Doug Sikes officiating. Burial will follow at Friend Cemetery in Oran, MO.
