Buz Ferrell, age 63, of Benton, MO passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the family home. He was born on May 26, 1951 in Cape Girardeau, MO to Bartley C. Ferrell Sr. and Melba Kirkpatrick Ferrell. Buz earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central Bible College in Springfield, MO in 1973, was a licensed minister, and later received his Masters in Psychological Counseling from Southeast Missouri State University. He was a licensed professional counselor for the state of Missouri and served as a mental health and substance abuse counselor for nearly twenty five years. From 1994-1999 he served as the Southeast regional representative to the Missouri Substance Abuse Counselor Certification Board. In 1999 he was selected as the President of the Board and in 2000 he served as the Ethics and Appeals Chairman. For the last twenty years he has touched hundreds of lives by providing counseling services for various agencies, including the Gibson Recovery Center and Associated Counseling Services of Cape Girardeau. He enjoyed camping trips with his son as well as studying history of the west and the Civil War. He was a true cowboy at heart. Survivors include his mother, Melba Ferrell of Benton, MO.; one son, Lance (Jesse) Ferrell of Benton, MO.; a special companion of 17 years, Christine Ray of Benton, MO.; two daughters at heart, Elizabeth Ray of Newaygo, MI. and Kathleen Ray of Edmond, OK.; one brother, Larry Ferrell of Jackson, MO.; three sisters, Barbara Dick of Lutz, FL., Janet Smith of Memphis, TN. and Sandy (Clayton) Bryant, Benton, MO. He was preceded in death by his father. Friends may call after 4p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10a.m. at the chapel with Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley, MO. Pallbearers will be Jeff Johnston, John Gary, Clayton Bryant, Matthew Ferrell, Michael Ferrell and Larry Ferrell.
