Jim Harold Hamby, age 88, of Benton, MO passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born on November 2, 1925 in Vanduser, MO to the late Val and Ann Tabor Hamby. He married Vadah Prindle in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1950. He married Shirley L. Steele in 1952 and she preceded him in death. He married Patricia Sanbury in 1957 and she survives. Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII as a gunner's mate in Atlantic and Pacific Theatre. He was a master plumber for Detroit, MI Plumber Union. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunted black bear and deer in MI; also participated in the annual three generation pheasant hunt in South Dakota. Survivors include his wife, Pat Hamby of Benton, MO; one son, James (Margaret) Arteme of Benton, MO; one daughter, Diana L. (Rick) Cornman of Cleveland, GA; one brother, Robert (Eulia) Hamby of Sikeston, MO; a grandson, Tommy (Michele) Arteme of Anna, IL; two granddaughters, Amy (Chris) Moore of St. Louis, MO, Danielle D. McBain of Charleston, SC; four great grandsons, Joah, Nolan and Logan Moore of St. Louis, MO and Drake Arteme of Anna, IL. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, one brother and two sisters. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10a.m., Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO with Rev. Tom Morris officiating and full military honors presented by the Missouri Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
