Clara Thurston

Clara Thurston, age 78, of Cape Girardeau, MO passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born on December 11, 1935 in Lowndes, MO to the late Luther Martin and Katie Mell Withers Wallace. She married Denver Thurston on March 10, 1956 and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1986. Clara was a retired cook for Covington Restaurant in Cape Girardeau. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army and Nutrition Center in Cape Girardeau and a member of the Salvation Army Church in Cape. Survivors include two sons, Galen (Judy) Thurston of Beckemeyer, IL, Wesley (Sandy Davis) Thurston of Centralia, IL; three daughters, Lavetta Hendershott of Marble Hill, MO, Vivian Alvis of Centralia, IL, Marsha Hinson of Cape Girardeau; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, a son-in-law, one grandchild, one great grandchild and one great great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 11a.m.,Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Salvation Army Church in Cape Girardeau, MO. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, MO.
