John A Garms, 87 of Scott City, MO died Monday, November 24, 2014 at his home. He was born June 8, 1927 at Oak Hill, MO to John F. and Norah M. Kohrmann Garms. He was first married to Rosa May Guillory of Port Barre, LA on Dec. 1, 1950. He later married Helen M. Arnold on Oct. 15, 1977 at Illmo Baptist church in Scott City, MO. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2005 to be with her Lord. John was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict in 1951. He received 2 Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct medals, plus others. After his discharge he worked for Potashnick & Associates for 40 years. He became project manager in 1971, he retired in 1989. He was a member of Illmo Baptist Church in Scott City, a lifelong member of both the VFW Post #6407 of Scott City and the American Legion Post #133of Perryville, MO and a 54 year member of the AF-AM Free Masons Lodge# 288 in Hermatage, MO. He is survived by two sons, John A. (Sandra) Garms of Arnaudville, LA and Jerry Garms of Jackson; a daughter, Bonnie (Marvin) Raines of Chaffee; a sister; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Garms and a very special friend Joann Lester. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother and three sisters. Friends may call from 5:00 -8:00 PM on Friday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City and Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the Illmo Baptist Church in Scott City. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM at the church with Rev. Bob Herring officiating. Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery in Farmington, MO with full military honors.
