Hazel Juanita Sexton, age 92 Of Cape Girardeau, died December 22, 2014 at the Lutheran Center with 2 daughters by her side. Hazel was born on October 28, 1922 to the late Charles & Sarah Wood in Van Buren, AR. She married Roy "Red" Melvin Sexton on June 25, 1938. They moved to a farm near Oran, MO in 1941. They had 4 sons & 6 daughters which kept her quite busy; still helping in the cotton field when she could. In 1965 they moved near Metropolis, IL. Then in 1990 she moved to Nashville, TN to be near her 4 youngest children. By 2001 she was in early stages of dementia and moved back "home" to Missouri. She very much enjoyed being outdoorswalking in the woods, riding in the country or just sitting on the porch watching cars go by. But that was only AFTER the cleaning, cooking, mending, etc. was done! Yes, she worked hard, played a bit and was always willing to help friends & neighbors any way she could. Hazel is survived by 7 children: Claude (Joyce) Sexton of Chaffee, MO; Ann (Elvis) Underwood of Cape Girardeau, MO; Charles Sexton of Sikeston, MO; Mary Frances (Mark) Johnson of Spencer, WI; Judy (Mike) Childers of Metropolis, IL; Sherry Wilkens of Cape Girardeau, MO; Donna (Keith) Neely of Nashville, TN; 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Clara Wood of Porterville, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Red; 3 children: Patsy, Johnny, & Larry, as well as 3 sisters & 3 brothers. A special thanks to the Ratcliffe Care Center & the Lutheran Center for the kindness & care they gave her as her condition worsened. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the chapel with Rev. Robert Poe officiating. Burial will be in New Morley Cemetery in Morley, MO.
