Mary Ann Poorman Young of Scott City was called to be with her Heavenly Father on the morning of May 4, 2015. She retired from teaching at Echo State School in Cape Girardeau in 2014. She was a lay speaker and pianist for the Methodist church for 25 years. Her smile, laughter, energy and faith touched many and welcomed every person she met. Mary was born in Chaffee on November 8, 1943 to Elmer and Mima Lee Poorman. Along with her parents two brothers Delbert Earl and Arthur Lee preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons Melvin Troy and Christopher Shawn and her sister Joyce Sander. There will be a memorial and celebration of her life held at the Broadway United Methodist church in Scott City from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday May 15, 2015. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to local organizations such as, The Salvation Army, Teen Challenge, The Women's Shelter or your local church.
