John Douglas McCallister, better known as "Red" to many, age 76, of Gordonville, MO passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the family home surrounded and supported by his family. He was born in Oran, Missouri on September 4, 1939 to the late Earl Douglas and Grace Alice McCarty McCallister. He married Patricia Joy Johnson on April 4, 1964 and she survives. John was a veteran of the United States Army and was a retired lineman for Union Electric in Cape Girardeau where he had been employed since 1970. He was a man of strong family values. His life was a testament of strength and support to those he loved. Survivors include his loving wife, Pat of the home; three sons, Brian (Jolie) McCallister of Gordonville, Missouri, Darren (Patti) McCallister of Jackson, Missouri, Brett (Jennifer) McCallister of Columbia, Missouri; one daughter, Jill Hendrix of Chaffee, Missouri; three sisters, Earlene (Eugene) Fowler of East Moline, IL, Earnestine (Bob) Harmon of Prescott, AZ, Eleanor (Raymond) Fryer of Eureka, Missouri; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Duncan. Friends may call after 4 p.m., Monday, October 5, 2015 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2015 at the chapel with Rev. Lynn Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley, Missouri.
