James T. Johnson, 91, of Commerce, died Sunday, Nov.22,2015
at Heartland Care & Rehab in Cape Girardeau. He was born November 26, 1923, in Orient, South Dakota, to Ed and Connie Phelps Johnson. James and Golda Virginia Koch were married April 21, 1946. He was a farmer and member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Commerce and a veteran of the Merchant Marines during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Golda; three daughters, Nancy (Robin) Burger of New Hamburg, Patricia DeHart of Commerce, and Peggy (Joe) Burton of Sikeston; 10 Grandchildren, James, Brian and Alex Burton, Tina Cork, Chris DeHart, Sarah Moore, Heath, Brett, and Mark Burger, and Heather Benson; 24 great grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Terry DeHart, four brothers, Sam and Ben Burford, Paul and Jerry Johnson; four sisters, Glenda Wright, Jeanette Laster, Connie Lou Moore and Joy Jean Simmons. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel with Rev. Dennis Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley
