John Gus Auer, 45, of Scott City died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau. He was born on August 23, 1970 at Fairfield, Calif., the son of John Bernard and Mary Ellen Corne Medel Auer. He married Denean Shirrell on October 23, 2000 at Benton, Mo.
John was a member of the Independent Electrical Contractors of Illinois and worked for K-T Power System in Cape Girardeau. In his younger years he was a BMX freestyle bike rider. An avid pool player, he was a member of the Pioneer and APA pool leagues. In 2003 and 2005 he played in the national pool championship in Las Vegas. John also loved to race. He raced in the spring Sportsman Challenge at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis, the O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals and in 2004 raced in the NHRA National event. He was a member of the First Baptist church in Scott City.
Survivors include; his wife Denean of the home; two sons, Garrett and Andrew Auer of the home; his mother, Mary Jones of Fairfield, Calif.; two brothers, Luke Auer of Millersville, Mo. and Joseph Jones of Fairfield; two sisters, Tammy Auer of Sacramento, Calif. and Mary Jones of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call Friday from 5-8:00 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel. Rev. Jeremey Sells will officiate. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.
