Erma Grojean, 96, of New Hamburg, MO, died Thursday, October 27, 2016 at The Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.
She was born July 28, 1920, in Kelso, MO, the daughter of John and Bertha (Bles) Dumey. On Aug. 14, 1942, in La Mesa, CA, she was married to Charles K. Grojean Sr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2006.
Mrs. Grojean was a homemaker devoted to her family and community. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, New Hamburg, and served on the Altar Society, Ladies Sodality and as leader of the Quilting Circle. She was a member of the University Extension Club and a longtime leader of the Eager Beavers 4-H Club in New Hamburg, teaching cooking, sewing and knitting. She was a lifelong learner who loved to read and routinely bested her children and grandchildren in a competitive game of Scrabble.
She is survived by five sons and three daughters, Charles K. (Mary) Grojean Jr., Kelso; Michael (Beverly) Grojean, Manchester, MO; Patricia McDonald, Cape Girardeau; Randall Grojean, San Antonio, TX; Sheila (Carl) Eftink, Sikeston; David (Sheri) Grojean, San Antonio; Lisa (Tim) Church, Sedalia, MO; and Chris (Sherri) Grojean, New Hamburg; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Kathryn Todt, Sikeston.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James Dumey, Frederick Dumey and Marvin Dumey; and five sisters, Hermina Compas, Augusta Dohogne, Arvella Steimle, Juanita Kern and Mary Paylor and one granddaughter, Sheila Elizabeth Eftink.
Friends may call after 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday, October 31, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, New Hamburg, with the Rev. Michael Casteel officiating. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Catholic Relief Services or Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri.
