Leona Scherer

Leona C. Scherer, 84 died at 10:20 A.M. Monday June 19, 2017 at Southeast Hospital.

She was born May 22, 1933 in Scott County, MO, daughter of the late Albert and Bertha Heuring Schwartz. On September 12, 1951, she married Theon L. Scherer who preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Church, Most Precious Blood Sisters of Ruma, IL, or of choice.

Mrs. Scherer was a dedicated farmer’s wife, mother and care giver at the Chateau. In addition, Mrs. Scherer was an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Sodality, St. Mary’s Food Pantry and other community activities.

Survivors include: Marilyn (Lonnie) Sievers, Paul (Beverly) Scherer, James Scherer, Jane (Pat) Fosse, and Carolyn (Gerard) Essner.  Grandchildren:  Brian Scherer, Amy Wilfawn (Friend Gary Stone), Eric (Kate) Sievers, Amanda (Chris) Johnson, Curtis (Theresa) Sievers, Elizabeth (Scott) Penny, Christopher Scherer, Ashley (Kerry Wayne) Lasters, Zachary (Jacklyn) Essner, Nicholas (fiancée Lauren) Fosse, Abby Essner, Matthew Fosse, ten great-grandchildren, one expecting and one sister Annie Essner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday June 23, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Kelso, MO.  Parish prayers will be at 7.  The Funeral Mass will be Saturday June 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Weidenbenner and Rev. Normand Varone Con-Celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
