Dortha Marion Halter

Dortha Marion Halter, 95, of Chaffee passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee.

She was born on March 3, 1922 in Perkins, Missouri to the late James and Clara Phillips Shoemaker. She married Cleophas “Lefty” Halter on February 19, 1944 and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2009.

Dortha was a homemaker. She was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved taking care of her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Dortha loved to quilt and craft work.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances (Dennis) Wagoner of Chaffee; a brother, Tommy (Shirley) Shoemaker of Perkins; a sister Mary “Betty” West of Troy, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Jim) Wilson of Houston, Texas; Danny (Ann) Wagoner of Chaffee and Eddie Wagoner of Kelso, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, William Wilson, Lauren Wagoner, Avery Wagoner, and Alex Wagoner; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Keen; Rose Anders and Lillian Marie Merrick; two brothers, James Shoemaker and Arvil “Bill” Shoemaker.

Friends may call after 4:00 pm on Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday at the Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Shoemaker assisted by Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial will be at Williams Cemetery in Perkins.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Chaffee Nutrition Center or Chaffee Library.
