Evelyn Leona Chong

Evelyn Leona Chong, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017 at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born on March 27, 1933 in Rockview, MO to the late Stanley and Rhoda Ross Shumpert. She married Loo Shee Chong on February 7, 1965 and he preceded her in death on October 24, 1994.

Evelyn was a homemaker in her own home. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Erwin of Phoenix, Arizona; Tim Chong of Tampa, Florida; a daughter, Sandra Hayes of Knightdale, North Carolina; four brothers, David Shumpert of Calhan, Colorado; Charles Shumpert of Scopus, Missouri; Billy Shumpert of Jackson, Missouri; Michael Shumpert of Watseka, Illinois; a sister, Ruth Ann Thiele of Delta, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Erwin; a daughter, Doris Lopez; two brothers, Stanley and William Shumpert; two sisters, Gladys Shumpert and Lula Wilkinson.

Friends may call after 2:00 pm until time of service on Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral Services will be at 4:00 pm Monday at the Chapel with Rev. David Shumpert officiating.

Burial will be at a later date at Ross Cemetery in Chaffee.
