Betty Jo McKinley passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born to Glen H. and Pearl Collins Gentry on March 10, 1927. A beloved mother and grandmother, Betty’s love of family and faith in God sustained her for 90 years. Betty was an active member of the Illmo Baptist Church for 60 years, volunteering in many capacities as a teacher and youth leader. She and Homer K. McKinley were married on June 23, 1946. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2002 after 56 years of marriage. While Betty worked as a nursery school teacher and at Ely Walker Factory Store until her retirement, she was primarily a homemaker who loved cooking meals for her family.
Loving survivors include her children: Ronald McKinley of Cape, Dennis (Linda) McKinley of Scott City, and Judy (Michael) Rolwing of Charleston. “Memaw” was a proud grandmother of Aleshia (Anthony) Musgrave of Chaffee; Nicole (Scott) Pullen of Scott City; Bryan (Tara) McKinley of Scott City; Eric McKinley of Scott City; Elizabeth (Jeff Griesemer) Rolwing of Cape; and Kristin (Jason) Renaud of Charleston, as well as her many great & great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by six brothers: Lynn Gentry of Scott City, Mike Gentry of Cape, Dick Gentry of Cape, Steve Gentry of Leopold, Stan Gentry of Scott City, Dan Gentry of Scott City; one sister, Connie Scales of Houston, Texas, and a sister-in-law, Pat Gentry of St. Clair. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Gentry and William Gentry.
Friends may call from noon until time of service on Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday at the chapel with Revs. Ronald McKinley and Mike Shupert officiating..
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
