Rose Lee Kern

She was born on Jan. 9, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Ruddle Otto and Mary Stevens Gloth. She married Robert “Duke” Kern on June 29, 1963 and he preceded her in death on August 3, 2016.

Rose Lee was a retired piece matcher for Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee and Cape Girardeau. After retirement she worked for Walmart deli in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg. She was a member of St. Ann Sodality and she was a former president and current member of the New Hamburg Home maker’s Club and a former leader of the Egger Beavers 4-H Club, and an adoring Elvis fan. Rose Lee worshipped her beautiful granddaughters and took pride in all their accomplishments. She always told everyone she was a tough mom, but she had a heart of gold for her son, Doug and her daughter in law, Sue.

She is survived by a son Robert Doug (Susan) Kern of Oran; two granddaughters, Jessica Kern of Cape Girardeau; Jamie(Fiancé Trenton Hency) Kern of Oran; a sister, Karen Schmitt of Chaffee; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Cate and a brother, Michael Gloth.

Friends may call after 4:00 pm on Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg. Parish Prayers will at 6:30 pm.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery in New Hamburg.
